Setting up product variations (sizes and colours)

Setting up product variations (sizes and colours)

When to use variations

Some products come in more than one version — a t-shirt in several sizes and colours, say. Rather than creating a separate product for each, you set up one product with variations. You get one tidy catalogue entry while each variation can carry its own SKU and stock.

Turn variations on

Variations are an opt-in feature. Go to Products → Settings → General and tick Enable variations, then save. A Variants tab then appears on each product.

Add a variation

  1. Open the product and select the Variants tab.
  2. Click New.
  3. Enter a SKU and Name for the variation and set its Status.
  4. Describe what makes it different using the option fields — for each option you give a name and a value, for example Size: Large and Colour: Blue. You can set up to three options.
  5. Click Save.

Duplicate to save time

To build a set of similar variations quickly, open the actions menu on an existing row and choose Duplicate. NexerIQ copies the details into a new variation (with a -COPY SKU) so you only change what differs.

The base variant

Every product has a base variant that represents the product itself. It's marked with a badge and can't be edited or deleted from this tab — manage its details on the main product instead. You can edit or delete any other variation from its row menu.
