Selling and buying in different units of measure

What units of measure do

Sometimes you buy or sell the same item in different pack sizes — you might purchase paper by the box but sell it by the piece. Units of measure let you do exactly that, while NexerIQ keeps your stock counts correct underneath.

Turn units on

Go to Products → Settings → General and tick Enable units of measure, then save. You can manage the list of available units on the Units tab of the same Settings page, where each unit has a Code, Name, a Decimal precision, and an option to require whole numbers only.

Set a product's base unit

When you create or edit a product, choose its Unit. This base unit is what stock and standard pricing are counted in.

Add extra units to a product

  1. Open the product and go to the Relations tab.
  2. In Units, click New.
  3. Pick the Unit code and give it a Name.
  4. Set the Quantity factor — how many base units this unit contains (for example a box of 10). Optionally set a Price factor and Purchase price factor.
  5. Click Save.

Barcodes per unit

On the same Relations tab you can add Barcodes and tie each one to a specific unit and quantity — handy when a single scan should mean a box rather than a single piece.
