Setting up the Asset Assignment extension
This guide shows you how to switch on the Asset Assignment extension so you can record which employee holds each asset. For what the extension does and why you'd use it, see Asset Assignment extension: what it does.
Install and enable
- Go to Settings → Marketplace Extensions.
- Find the Asset Assignment card (search for "asset assignment" if it's quicker), and click it to review the details and required permissions.
- Click Install to add it to your system.
- Click Enable to switch it on. Asset Assignment has no settings to fill in, so it activates immediately.
Settings
There's nothing to configure. Once enabled, the new fields simply appear on your assets, ready to use.
Using it day to day
Open any asset and you'll find a new Assignment section with two fields:
- Assigned Employee — pick the person responsible from your employee directory.
- Assigned Date — set the date the assignment was made.
When an asset changes hands, just update these fields to the new person and date. Save the asset as usual and the record is kept.
Turning it off
To stop using it, open the card and click Disable — your data is kept and you can re-enable any time. To remove it entirely, click Uninstall and confirm; this purges the assignment fields and their values from your assets.
Tip: update the Assigned Date whenever an asset moves to a new person — it gives you an at-a-glance history of how long each assignment has lasted, which is invaluable during audits.
