Setting up the Work Project Planning extension
This guide shows you how to switch on the Work Project Planning extension so you can record estimated, actual, and milestone dates on every work project. For what the extension does and why you'd use it, see Work Project Planning extension: what it does.
Install and enable
- Go to Settings → Marketplace Extensions.
- Find the Work Project Planning card (search for "planning" if it's quicker), and click it to review the details and required permissions.
- Click Install to add it to your system.
- Click Enable to switch it on. There are no settings to fill in, so it activates immediately.
Settings
There's nothing to configure — once enabled, the planning date fields simply appear on your work projects, ready to use.
Using it day to day
After enabling, open any work project and you'll find a new Planning group with the extra date fields. A natural rhythm to use them:
- When you start a project, set Founded On and your Estimated Start and Estimated Finish to mark the planned window.
- Add Optimistic Finish and Pessimistic Finish to capture your best- and worst-case projections.
- As the work happens, fill in Actual Start and Actual Finish so you can compare the plan against reality.
To stop using the fields, open the card and click Disable — your existing dates are kept and it can be re-enabled. To remove it completely, click Uninstall and confirm; this purges the planning fields and their stored values.
Tip: fill in the estimated dates up front and the actual dates as you go — that pairing is what turns these fields into meaningful variance and delivery reports later.
