This guide shows you how to install, enable, and configure the Customer Queue Auto SMS extension so customers are texted automatically when they join a queue. For what the extension does and why you'd use it, see Customer Queue Auto SMS extension: what it does.
Before you start
Queue messages send through your company's SMS setup in NexerIQ, so make sure text messaging is configured first. If you can already send a text from NexerIQ, you're ready.
Install and enable
- Go to Settings → Marketplace Extensions.
- Find the Customer Queue Auto SMS card (search for "queue sms" if it's quicker), and click it to review the details and required permissions.
- Click Install to add it to your system.
- Click Enable. Because this extension has settings, a drawer opens — review the values and click Enable.
Settings
You can change these any time by clicking Configure on the card and then Save:
- Enabled by default — when on, text messages are sent for queues that don't set their own preference. Turn it off if you'd rather opt queues in one at a time. Defaults to on.
- Tracking URL base — an optional public web address used to build the queue status link in the message. Leave it blank if you don't offer a customer-facing status page.
Per-queue and per-entry controls live on the queues themselves. Go to Settings → Customers → Queue, where each queue has an Auto SMS enabled switch, an SMS From field for the sender identity, and each entry can be marked with an Auto SMS opt-out. The SMS From value must be either an alphanumeric sender ID of up to 11 characters or a phone number in international format.
Using it day to day
Once enabled, the extension works on its own. Each time a customer with a phone number is added to a queue, NexerIQ sends the text automatically. To shape who gets messaged:
- Use the Auto SMS enabled switch on a queue to turn texts on or off for that queue specifically.
- Set the SMS From value on a queue so messages show the right sender.
- Set Auto SMS opt-out on an individual entry to skip the text for that one customer.
- Keep customer phone numbers accurate so messages reach them.
Turning it off
To pause queue texts everywhere, open the card and click Disable — your settings and per-queue choices are kept, and you can re-enable any time. To remove it entirely, click Uninstall and confirm; this purges the extension's stored values.
Tip: set a clear SMS From on each queue so customers instantly recognise who the message is from — a short business name as the sender ID often works better than a number.
